Constructed during a time when Buffalo stood as the 7th largest city in the United States, the Barton building played a vital role in addressing the pressing health concerns of its era. In 1927, the infant mortality rate of newborns was a staggering 23%, and for children aged 0-5, it reached 33% (excluding stillbirths).
